Cortney works with a diverse clientèle, primarily offering services to adults with “fear-based” disorders. She identifies as a Cognitive Behavior Therapist, using mindfulness and exposure (including Exposure and Response Prevention) to help people meet their therapy goals. She recently started offering Radically Open Dialectical Behavior Therapy, a new treatment for mental health difficulties marked by excessive self-control.
She has has enjoyed working with individuals living with:

Cortney Modelewski, MA, LPC is a mental health counselor in practice since 2015. She’s a trained Cognitive Behavior Therapist with experience in helping those living with anxiety disorders, Obsessive Compulsive Disorders, eating disorders, maladaptive perfectionism, and chronic depression. Her approach to therapy can be summed up as, “Do more of what works, do less of what doesn’t, use evidence-based practice with humility whenever possible.”
A Western Michigan University alumna, she graduated with a Master of Arts in Counselor Education with an emphasis on Clinical Mental Health Counseling. She draws from the values of both counseling’s humanistic tradition and from change-oriented Cognitive Behavior Therapy to help people meet their goals.
In addition to her work as a Cognitive Behavior Therapist, she is a member of one of the first Linehan Board of Certification Dialectical Behavior Therapy teams. She is a participant in the Kalamazoo Hoarding Task Force, as well as holding memberships with the American Counseling Association, the International OCD Foundation, and the Southwest Michigan Eating Disorders Association. Her most recent accomplishment is becoming the first intensively trained Radically Open Dialectical Behavior Therapy clinician in West Michigan.
Session rate: $150 per hour
Legal: $125 per hour (direct or indirect contact)
Our practice is currently in network for Blue Cross Blue Shield. We can bill most plans out-of-network on your behalf. Please contact your insurance company regarding out-of-network coverage.
Be aware that your mental health coverage can differ from your “physical health” coverage. It is not uncommon for insurance companies to carve out mental health coverage to other companies. You are responsible for verifying your mental health insurance carrier prior to setting an appointment.

For those who haven’t referred to us before:
- New clients can typically be seen within 14 days for non-emergencies and within 7 days post-discharge from psychiatric hospitalization.
- Experience and success in working with adults with high intensity mental health needs on an outpatient basis, including frequent primary care utilization, self-injury, suicidal thoughts and behaviors, and restrictive eating.
- Formal training in Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) with commitment to evidence-based practice.
